DorSuite Delivers Fire Door Solutions for 1 Broadgate

Project Overview

DorSuite is proud to have played a key role in the successful completion of the iconic 1 Broadgate development, a transformative project at the heart of London’s financial district. 1 Broadgate is delivered by British Land (in partnership with GIC) as part of their Broadgate campus strategy, aiming to set new benchmarks for London office developments. Working in partnership with Ruddy Joinery, the specialist subcontractor to, Sir Robert McAlpine, DorSuite supplied a comprehensive package of bespoke commercial doorsets that contributed to the project’s exceptional quality, aesthetic vision, and ambitious sustainability targets.

1 Broadgate is a striking 14-storey, mixed-use development designed to set a new benchmark for sustainable commercial buildings. Delivered by Sir Robert McAlpine, the project features 56,500m² of premium office, retail, leisure, and dining space. With a clear focus on future-proofing and environmental responsibility, the building is on target to achieve BREEAM Outstanding, WELL Platinum, and NABERS 5-star certifications.

The Challenge

A project of this scale and calibre demanded a door manufacturer with the technical expertise and collaborative spirit to match. A key element of this project was coordinating closely with Ruddy Joinery, who integrated DorSuite’s doorsets into their wider joinery package for the building. Their expertise in fit-out and installation made collaboration essential to meeting programme requirements. DorSuite was tasked with supplying high-performance commercial doorsets that met a complex set of requirements. Key challenges included:

  • Aesthetic Integration – The doorsets needed to seamlessly integrate with the building's modern, sophisticated architectural design, including the intricate “colour-graded façade,” ensuring a cohesive and premium finish throughout.

  • Sustainability & Certification – DorSuite prioritised the use of FSC-certified materials and delivered fire-rated and acoustic-rated doorsets that enhanced occupant safety, acoustic comfort, and long-term durability.

  • Technical Performance – The doors had to deliver on multiple fronts, including fire safety, acoustic performance, and durability for a high-traffic commercial environment.

  • Logistical Complexity – The project’s urban location presented significant logistical hurdles. DorSuite needed to work closely with Sir Robert McAlpine to manage the demanding delivery schedule and installation, ensuring minimal disruption to surrounding businesses.

The DorSuite Solution

Through early engagement and a partnership-driven approach, DorSuite leveraged its expertise to provide a tailored solution for 1 Broadgate. Our strategy focused on precision, sustainability, and collaboration.

  • Bespoke Design – Working directly with AHMM and Sir Robert McAlpine, our in-house team developed a suite of bespoke doorsets to meet the aesthetic and technical requirements of each location — from communal entrances to office floors, leisure spaces, and retail units.

  • Fire & Acoustic Performance – DorSuite supplied a total of 480 doorsets (with additional units later added). This included FD60 fire-rated doors, FD30 fire-rated doors, non-fire-rated doors, of which 112 were also acoustic-rated. This ensured safety, compliance, and comfort across the development.

  • Sustainable Sourcing – In line with project goals, we prioritised responsibly sourced, FSC® Certified materials, helping the development achieve its high-level sustainability credentials.

  • Collaborative Delivery – Close coordination with Ruddy Joinery enabled DorSuite to streamline manufacture and delivery, adapting swiftly to the fast-paced construction programme.

  • Specialist Integration – Ironmongery was specified and supplied outside of DorSuite’s scope, ensuring project partners could integrate their own expertise into the final solution.

The Outcome

The collaboration between DorSuite and Ruddy Joinery was pivotal to ensuring seamless integration of the doorsets into the project, and we are proud to have supported their delivery of such a landmark scheme. The successful completion of 1 Broadgate is a testament to collaboration and commitment to excellence. DorSuite’s doorsets form a vital part of the building’s performance and design, contributing to a sustainable, future-proof workplace that sets new standards for London’s commercial real estate.
